Dragon's Den - an extension of Genius Hour
In this extension of Genius Hour, students are encouraged come up with an innovative idea/product that will benefit someone or something. The following are basic knowledge/skills that students will demonstrate:
What products could I improve or make accessible to a different audience? Students will understand that… Creating an innovative product takes time and a lot of effort, but can be rewarding. The “WHY” or reason you decide to take action become the driving force for future action. The “HOW” in creating a product includes research skills, a defined focus, and effective communication to be successful. The “WHAT” in creating a product includes detailed representations of the product, a target audience, and supports to become successful. What is a business plan and how is it beneficial? What defines a successful “pitch”? Students will know… Every business begins small, with small attainable goals which grow with the product idea and target audience. The types of businesses and the purpose of a business plan. The importance of budgeting and advertising. The ability to persuade an audience is necessary for an effective product/business “pitch”. How do I create an effective business plan? How do I write a pitch in order to persuade an audience? Students will be able to… Design an innovative product that is beneficial in some way. Create a business plan including; reasoning (WHY), target audience, materials and cost for budgeting (HOW), and the product design, selling cost, and supports (WHAT). Create a persuasive “pitch” and deliver a presentation to a panel of “experts” about their product idea. |
