Grade 6 ScienceWelcome back to a new school year! I am very excited to be teaching Grade 6 Science and look forward to working with your child. Science 6 has been a favorite core subject of mine, as it connects with many of the students interests and allows for hands-on opportunities.
The topics covered this year will be: Evidence and Investigation, Sky Science, Air and Aerodynamics, Flight, and Trees & Forests. We will have 5 periods a week of science and of course a Provincial Achievement Test in June. There will be periodic quizzes and unit exams this year and the students will have a study/review sheet created prior to testing. During the school year students will also be involved in "projects" that may be linked to other subject areas . |
Unit 1Evidence and Investigation |
Overview
Students sharpen their skills in observing and interpreting what they see by investigating evidence of human and animal activity. They explore and analyze indoor and outdoor environments as they look for footprints, markings, evidence of disturbance and things that are left behind. Through these studies, students learn to pose questions, devise investigations, recognize patterns and discrepancies, and think logically about what they have observed. |
