In this one week mini-unit, students will be reminded of the purpose of Remembrance Day and why we recognize November 11.
Students will also be taught the significance of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and how this relic symbolizes the importance and recognition of those who fought for our freedom and were unable to return home. Students will be responsible for writing a literary piece on what they have learned in the form of a letter, paragraph, or poem. Students are encouraged to enter this writing to the Eckville Legion. "The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was created to honour the more than 116,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives in the cause of peace and freedom. Furthermore, the Unknown Soldier represents all Canadians, whether they be navy, army, air force or merchant marine, who died or may die for their country in all conflicts - past, present, and future."
