Leslieville's "WE" Club
This year, I am organizing and planning a club that focuses on leadership and empowerment opportunities for grade 6 and 7 students. This club will participate in fundraising and charity events for the Free the Children Campaign and earn their way to go to "We Day", which is on October 27 in Calgary.

The purpose of this club is to encourage and assist students in setting goals; learning more about how they can make an impact in their community and around the world through active citizenship and leadership roles. I believe that by empowering children, you not only teach them valuable life skills such as fundraising, but also resiliency skills; the ability to adapt to change.
The expectation is that students commit to 2 goals for the year - a community improvement goal, and a goal that will help other places in Canada or around the world. This expectation is set in place because it does determine whether or not we receive tickets to next years "We Day" - we have to earn our way to this event.
Some ideas that my grade 6 and 7 class did last year include:
Together we can change the world! :)

Some ideas that my grade 6 and 7 class did last year include:
- The Haunted House at the school which we attached the "We Scare Hunger" campaign (Food bank donations) from Free the Children
- The "We Bake for Change" bake sale where we made and sold healthy food items over a 3 day period and donated the money to a Free the Children pillar community for better health care.
- The 12 Days of Christmas which was also connected a food bank drive
- A "Hat Day" where each student participating donated $2 and the donations went to the Rocky Organization the Animal Rescue (ROAR)
- A student organized and ran a fundraising campaign for Cancer research
Together we can change the world! :)

WE Day 2015 - Calgary (Oct. 27, 2015)
We Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. It is a yearlong program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create social change by offering the tools and the inspiration to take social action, empower others and transform lives—including their own.

WE Scare Hunger - Leslieville's Haunted House! (Oct. 30, 2015)
We Scare Hunger is a Halloween food drive to help food banks stock up on everything they need to fight hunger—the worst super-villain ever.
This year Leslieville school will be hosting another Haunted House on October 30, 2015. The house will be open to students from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and class rotations will visit the ghosts of the school during this time period. Please bring a donation for the Red Deer Food Bank to help us reach our goal of 300lbs of food donated to "scare" hunger. |
The 12 Days of Christmas & The 12 Days of Fitness!
Members of Leslieville’s WE Club have organized another 12 Days of Christmas! This means we will be having 12 consecutive “spirit” days before Christmas holidays! The 12 school days before Christmas holidays are from Dec. 1 (Tues.) to Dec. 17 (Thurs.). We encourage all students and staff to take part in the activities. *******PLEASE NOTE******* These 12 Days are just for fun and each of the days are optional! You do not have to buy the clothing items.
On each of the days, the WE Club also put together "The 12 Days of Fitness" where all classes are encouraged to do a particular physical activity after the morning announcements until Dec. 17. The specific physical activity will be mentioned in the announcements for the day.

4Th Annual Hope & Dignity Stocking Drive
Wildrose School Division's Hope & Dignity Project Stocking Drive. Our mission is to assist middle school students in our Division as identified by contacts in our schools, and we are simply looking to make a difference in a student's life by recognizing special events (birthdays, Christmas, etc.) and providing them with basic necessities (hygiene items, socks, etc). The goal of this project is to show kindness and caring to these kids, anonymously. Leading up to the holidays, we open up our project to a larger scope to include kids that are in a difficult situation to try to ensure that everyone receives something for Christmas.
Leslieville's We Club will be assisting the Hope & Dignity team at District office by collecting donations and stuffing the stockings. This was chosen by the We Club in place of a Christmas food drive. Donation items must be received at Leslieville School by December 9, 2015. |
WE Bake for Change
Leslieville's WE Club has decided to apron up and hold a bake sale to make a world of difference for developing communities! This bake sale will also be paired with the Grade 6 and 7 health curriculum on nutrition. Our sale will be over 2 days with new items each day!
The dates for the sale will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 and Monday, April 18, 2016. Most items for the sale will be $2 or less. As a group, we raised $390 above our expenses of $330. We have chosen to donate the funds raised to Ecuador taking into consideration the recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated the area. Thank you to those who participated and donated to our bake sale, we could not have made such an impact without you. |
